Happy Times
We have built a great little family tradition that
each of our children gets to pick a movie and once a week they get ‘Daddy Day’.
Daddy Day is where I spend the day with each of the kids to do something
special with each of them. My wife, Christa came to me and said, “Steve I think
you should take time out for each of the kids so you can bond with each one in
their own special way.” I loved the idea and started doing Daddy Day.
Our oldest is our son Cameron who is 6 years old. He
is a fun kid that likes to make old Dad go to Lego movies and play Plants vs.
Zombies on our Xbox. He jumps around and squeals and giggles as we play. He
really loved it when we went to see the Lego Batman movie in theatres. He was
so quiet and paid so close attention I thought he was in some kind of trance.
Oh and then he about fell out of his seat laughing at the pink batman outfit. I
couldn’t help but laugh either. After the movie we had to go buy a Batman Lego
set and build it. He is a remarkable little boy.
Our youngest is our son Tristan who is 2 years old.
He is easy to please on Daddy Day. He is still much too young to take out to
the movie theatre so we stay home and play and watch cartoons. To my surprise
he loved Zootopia. We couldn’t get him to move away from the TV. The music
would play and he would do his little waddle dance in front of the TV and we
would just cheer him on. Oh and he caught on to the little sheep before any of
us. He would point, grunt and scream at the TV screen when any of the bad
animals would come into frame. He makes me watch that movie over and over and
over again. I can sing along and quote that movie now I have seen it so many
times. I think he will be my little detective when he gets older.
I love both of our boys but my favorite Daddy Day is
when Emilia, our 4 year old daughter, gets to pick the Daddy Day activities. My
favorite was when she begged and begged to go see Moana. I was dreading it. I
am a grown man what do I look like sitting through a Disney princess movie. I
took her of course. Daddy’s princess wanted to go see Moana with Daddy so that
is what she got. We watched the first showing of the day. I couldn’t stop
laughing at that goofy chicken, HeiHei. And when Maui kept throwing Moana of
the boat and the Ocean kept putting her back onboard we were both hysterical.
We laughed through the entire movie. We both loved it so much we stayed and
watched the second showing. This time we both laughed and sang along with the
movie.
On our way home Emilia asked me to download the
soundtrack on my phone. And of course I went above and beyond for my little
princess. I downloaded all the Disney songs and we sang to every single one of
them as we drove through the country side. We had a great day together.
I came into a pre-made family but I love all 3 of
those kids as if they were my own. It is why I do Daddy day for each one of
them. Their real dad isn’t in the picture so I want them to know they are loved
and nothing in the world makes me happier than to be their dad.
